Preview, predictions

What an unbelievable final we are in store for this Sunday. Last year’s final had it all and left tennis fans around the world on the edge of their seats. In the end, it was the young Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz who triumphed, beating Novak Djokovic in a thrilling five-set match to earn him his first Wimbledon title.

This year we are lucky enough to see it again. Alcaraz has been typically entertaining to watch at this year’s championship, producing some scintillating tennis consistently. It has taken him a little while to get into some of his matches, dropping the first set to his opponent on several occasions. He cannot afford to do that against the twenty-four-time grand slam champion, Djokovic.

There were doubts surrounding the fitness of the Serb heading into the tournament as he only recently had surgery on his knee, but you wouldn’t have noticed one bit based on the way he has been playing so far. He seems confident and appears to be relishing playing the pantomime villain towards the Wimbledon crowd. He will want revenge for last year’s defeat to Alcaraz and will no doubt be looking to add another trophy to his collection.

Djokovic received a bye into the semi-final round due to Alex de Minaur withdrawing with a hip injury before the match. This gave the thirty-seven-year-old additional recovery time and as a result, cruised to a comfortable victory against Lorenzo Musetti to book his place in Sunday’s final. We are going with the veteran to win in five sets this time.
