Match predictions, preview & predicted lineups

Ipswich haven’t been in the Premier League since 2001/02 and have been handed a tough first game for their return with Liverpool visiting Suffolk. Though Liverpool too have a lot to prove under new manager Arne Slot. The players seem to have adapted well to the Dutchman’s new style with an unbeaten pre-season. Despite not adding to the squad so far, Liverpool still have great strength in depth with van Dijk, Mac Allister, Alexander-Arnold and Salah.

Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna has resisted the siren calls of larger clubs to remain at Ipswich where he has seen back-to-back promotions. We hope we will be rewarded for his loyalty by at least keeping Ipswich in the Premiership this season and his chance to manage a larger club will surely come, especially if he achieves his first goal. However Liverpool’s greater experience should give them the win, though don’t be surprised they go behind first as the Reds are notoriously slow starters

Predicted lineups:

Ipswich: (3-4-3) Muric — Tuanzebe, Edmundson, Greaves — Johnson, Luongo, Morsy, Davis — Hutchinson, Harness, Delap

Liverpool: (4-3-3) Alisson — Alexander-Arnold, Van Dijk, Konate, Robertson — Mac Allister, Elliott, Szoboszlai — Jota, Gakpo, Salah
