Canelo, 33, comes into the bout with a 60-2-2- record, while Munguia, six years his junior at 27, brings a flawless 43-0-0 record to the table, while he holds a narrow advantage when it comes to both height and reach to pose a real test for his compatriot.

After his defeat to Dimitrii Bivol in May 2022, Alvarez has bounced back with three consecutive wins coming against Gennady Golovkin, John Ryder and Jermell Charlo.

His opponent did what he couldn’t last time out with a stoppage win over Ryder, and that in turn sets up a fascinating clash between these two, in what promises to be an all-action encounter.

Prediction

This is a major step-up in opposition for Munguia, and he’ll have to be smart, aggressive and composed throughout in order to get the better of his rival when they go toe-to-toe.

His punch output has to be high but accurate, as if this goes the distance, it’ll take something clear-cut to get the nod from the judges to hand him the victory.

From Canelo’s perspective, he’ll undoubtedly bring pressure and step forward as much as possible, letting off heavy shots to his opponent’s head and body with his usual elite variation, speed and clinical precision, while using his razor-sharp counter-punching to come out on top when the pair engage.

There’s a lot siding with Munguia in this as detailed above with his age, height and reach advantages, while he does carry power with a higher knockout percentage than Canelo. However, back the pound-for-pound superstar to come away with the win and further cement his legacy. Canelo by decision.
