Match previews, predictions
England start their Euro 2024 campaign on Sunday evening when they face Serbia. Gareth Southgate will be hoping to get off to a winning start when they come up against a Serbian side who can trouble any team on their day. England’s makeshift defense will have to be wary of strikers Alexander Mitrovic and Dusan Vlahovic, who have been scoring for fun for their club sides.
Marc Guehi is expected to partner John Stones in the heart of the England defense if Stones is deemed fit enough to start. The player missed some of England’s training sessions this week due to illness. It is being reported that Trent Alexander-Arnold will start in a midfield three with Phil Foden on the wing. We predict this game will end in a draw.
Elsewhere, in the same group, Slovenia plays Denmark, who finished first and second in their qualifying group. Eyes will be on Slovenia’s key striker, Benjamin Sesko, who has been on many clubs’ radar over the last couple of years. Our prediction is that Denmark will come away with all three points.
Sunday’s Group D game features the Netherlands and Poland. The Netherlands are looking much stronger under Ronald Koeman and will be confident of going far in the tournament. Poland will unfortunately be without their captain and key player, Robert Lewandowski, for this game as he picked up an injury in the build-up to the competition. Without Lewandowski, it is hard to see anything other than a Dutch victory.
