Europa League predictions, preview
Liverpool vs Atalanta
Jurgen Klopp’s side will be looking to make amends after their wasteful performance over the weekend against Man Utd. Anfield will be rocking on Thursday and the fans will be expecting nothing less than a convincing victory.
‘The Reds’ have received some good news on the injury front, with Jota, Alisson, and Trent Alexander-Arnold returning to training this week. It is uncertain whether any trio will be risked so soon. Konate may come in for Quansah following the youngster’s mistake on Sunday.
Atalanta knocked out the impressive Sporting Lisbon in the previous round so they are not to be taken lightly. Gasperini’s team lie in sixth place in Serie A and are on a mixed run of form heading into this clash. His attacking style of play will no doubt cause Liverpool some problems. They will look to Ademola Lookman and Gianluca Scamacca, formerly of the Premier League, to help produce an upset. We expect a dominant win for the home side.
Leverkusen vs West Ham
Perhaps, the tie of the round. Last year’s UEFA Conference League winners take on one of the most in-form sides in Europe.
Manager, Xabi Alonso has worked wonders with Leverkusen this year. They are running away with the domestic league and have already secured a place in the German Cup Final.
The home side also welcome back star striker, Victor Boniface to their squad. He has only recently returned from injury after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
‘The Hammers’ will be hoping that Jarrod Bowen will be fit enough to make the trip after he was forced to come off with an injury over the weekend against Wolves. David Moyes will also be without midfielder Edson Alvarez who is suspended.
This will be a big ask for West Ham but we know that they are capable of grinding out results in Europe. Having said that, we predict that Leverkusen will have a bit too much for them on Thursday.
