Champions League predictions, preview
Arsenal host Bayern with the two sides in contrasting positions currently, with the Premier League table-toppers full of confidence, while their Bundesliga counterparts are having a season to forget domestically.
The Gunners have won four of their last five in the league and saw off Porto in the last round on penalties, and so belief and confidence in Mikel Arteta’s group is undoubtedly growing.
Conversely, the Bavarian giants have lost back-to-back league games and sit a massive 16 points adrift of leaders Bayer Leverkusen, and with Thomas Tuchel set to depart at the end of the season, he’ll hope to at least add another major European trophy to the cabinets before his exit.
Bayern do have plenty of experience and pedigree in this competition and there is of course a lot of quality in their squad, led by Harry Kane on his return to England following his summer switch from Tottenham, but we have to go with in-form Arsenal to get the win in the first leg at home.
While Real Madrid overcame RB Leipzig in the last round, Man City defeated FC Copenhagen in emphatic style as these two sides meet again after their thrilling semi-final encounter last year.
City got back to winning ways in the league last weekend and are primed for a big push to end the season as they look to defend their domestic crown, but retaining their title in Europe will prove to be a difficult task.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side sit eight points clear at the top of La Liga, and having had a nine-day rest since their last outing, they will be refreshed and focused on getting a positive result at home, which in turn gives them something to defend at the Etihad next week. We’re backing the Spanish giants to take a slender first-leg lead into that reverse fixture.
