Day 1

New Zealand make two changes bringing in Will Young and Mitchell Santer for Devon Conway and Nathan Smith and for England Matthew Potts replaces Chris Woakes. This is Tim Southee’s last test match and New Zealand would love to give him the perfect send off with a win after losing the first two Tests in this series. After New Zealand’s triumph in India and England’s dismal show in Pakistan, here the roles have been reversed with conditions in New Zealand similar to those in England. With Harry Brook and Joe Root leading the batting and Brydon Carse and Gus Atkinson the bowling, one would have to fancy England to make it a clean sweep. Will Young, omitted from the first two Tests after being man of series in India, will have something to prove. A closer game than then the first two, but England to win.
