Champions League predictions, preview

PSG vs Barcelona

PSG find themselves ten points clear at the top of their domestic league table, so all their attention will be on this tie against the Catalan giants.

Luis Enrique will know that on their day they are capable of beating anyone, especially at home. This is the competition that all their fans are striving to win, finally.

For this first leg, they will unfortunately be without Achraf Hakimi. The influential fullback finds himself suspended after picking up his third yellow card last time out against Real Sociedad.

There will no doubt be lots of pressure on the shoulders of talisman Kylian Mbappe to come away with a significant lead heading into the second leg.

Barcelona head into the tie on a good run of form, having not lost a game since the end of January. Xavi will be sweating on the fitness of several key players, including Frankie de Jong and Pedri, who are doubts for the game. Andreas Christensen is in line to return following his recent injury. We expect there to be goals in this one and are backing Barcelona to come away from France with a point.

Atletico Madrid vs Dortmund

Atletico Madrid will be favourites heading into their tie with Dortmund tonight. Their impressive European home form along with the fact that they haven’t had to play a game for over a week should work in their favour.

However, they will be without their hero from the previous round, Memphis Depay, who has picked up a muscle injury.

Despite Dortmund’s inconsistent league form they certainly can’t be ruled out. They defied the odds and finished top of the so-called ‘group of death’ in the earlier stages of the competition. Edin Terzic’s side also recently went to Munich and beat domestic rivals Bayern Munich 2-0, so they will not be fazed by this challenge.

In what will no doubt be a fascinating fixture, we can’t see beyond a home win on this occasion.
