Serie A and TNT Sports are said to have reached an agreement to extend their media rights deal in the UK and Ireland until the end of the 2026/27 season.
With the previous deal running down, the reported extension will run for another three years, while further details are expected in the coming weeks to confirm how many games per matchday will be shown by the broadcaster.
This is the latest deal to be touted involving tv rights for the Italian top flight, with CBS Sports/Paramount renewing their deal in the US, while Serie A fans in Germany, Austria and Switzerland will continue to tune in via DAZN.
In Italy, DAZN will broadcast every game live, while Sky Sport have three games per week as part of the existing agreement.
From a UK and TNT Sports perspective though, it’s an important re-acquisition for their portfolio of football on offer for their customers, with the Premier League, Champions League and additional competitions coming as part of the package.
It remains to be seen if ITV continue to have involvement in that market with a smaller share of live games, as they did in the back-end of last season, but the majority of the league’s games will be continue to be shown on TNT Sports across the UK and Ireland as a result of this latest deal.
Italian football fans in the region will watch on as Inter look to defend their crown, with rivals AC Milan, Juventus, Atalanta and others all looking to close the gap on the Nerazzurri and contend for the Scudetto in the upcoming campaign.
The deal offers important continuity given the tv rights bounced around for a period across various broadcasters and platforms, but time will tell just how many games TNT Sports will carry, as despite their ability to show multiple games across various channels, the expectation is that they will not show every game, as was the case through the previous cycle.
