Super Bowl LVIII – Kansas City Chiefs vs San Francisco 49ers preview and prediction

The 49ers go into the weekend as favourites, as they’re available at 1.73, while the Chiefs are at 2.10.

Having won two of the last four Super Bowls while losing in 2021 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Kansas City have the pedigree and experience of playing in the season finale, and they’ll be intent on continuing to build their own dynasty as they’ve broken multiple records both individually and collectively with their success in recent years.

That said, San Francisco don’t lack experience and talent given the make-up of their team on both sides of the ball, and so this really is an evenly-matched contest that could go either way.

Having stumbled through the regular season, the Chiefs impressed with wins over the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens on the road in the playoffs to get here. In contrast, the Niners looked a level above through most of the year before having to come from behind against the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions in high-pressure fourth-quarters to battle through.

Some will look at those performances and question if they can pull it off against the Chiefs who are a step up in opposition, but what it should do is strengthen the resolve and belief in this 49ers roster to prove to themselves that they can win in different ways.

Back Purdy and a stand-out defensive performance from the likes of Fred Warner, Dre Greenlaw, Nick Bosa and others to get the 49ers over the line and celebrating in Vegas on Sunday night. Both teams will put up points given the offensive talent they have and the question marks in the back-field on both sides, but it’s going to be Purdy, Shanahan and the 49ers’ night.

Betting tips:
San Francisco 49ers to win Super Bowl LVIII @ 1.73
Christian McCaffrey to be Super Bowl MVP @ 4.50
Each team to score 20+ points @ 1.91
