Preview

After going 15-2 in the regular season to top the AFC West, the Chiefs knocked off the Houston Texans and the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs, as they once again navigate their way to the big game.

Much like the dominant New England Patriots before them, Kansas City are now the team most fans love to hate given their sustained success, but that will matter little to Mahomes and Co. as they continue their ruthless winning streak.

Similarly to previous years, they will rely on their star quarterback and Kelce to lead their offense, while Jones remains the lynchpin of their defense. Add talent all around them with the ability to make big plays and a brilliant coaching staff who continue to scheme up ways to win, most notably defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, you do have to respect what the Chiefs are doing if you ignore the conspiracy theories and fatigue around their ongoing presence deep into the postseason.

As noted above, it’s hard to bet against them as this is what they do, but the Eagles won’t be turning up to just to see what New Orleans has to offer on a weekend trip, they have their sights set on revenge and capping off what has been an extraordinary year for them too.

Nick Sirianni’s men went 14-3 as they finished top of the NFC East, and after anxious wins over the Green Bay Packers and the Los Angeles Rams to reach the NFC Championship Game, they stomped all over the Washington Commanders to book their ticket back to the season finale.

New York Giants fans will be sick seeing Saquon Barkley power this offense all the way to Super Bowl LIX, but the running back has been sensational this year, having not only stayed healthy and taken his game to the next level, but with a dominant offensive line in front of him, it has opened all sorts of lanes for him to run all over teams week in and week out.

Jalen Hurts will play his part too and Philly has an incredible defensive unit that will get after Mahomes and put him under serious and consistent duress, and that is what makes this game so fascinating, as can the Chiefs signal-caller find a way once again under the lights to fend off another contender looking to take his crown?

Prediction

If the Chiefs can’t stop the Eagles’ running game, this becomes a pretty easy prediction as if Barkley has the freedom of the Superdome to run around and cause mayhem, the Eagles could not only put up points, but dominate time of possession and keep Mahomes off the field for long stretches.

Should that materialise, Philadelphia have a great chance of pulling this off and lifting the Lombardi Trophy. From a Kansas City perspective, they have to shackle Barkley and put it on Hurts to beat them with his arm and limit his own rushing threat, and that then tips the balance in their favour. With the genius of Spagnuolo leading their defense, you can’t put it passed them doing exactly that.

The Chiefs have been here and done it, they’ve got the experience and ruthless winning mentality to deliver in the big moments. It’s not often that Mahomes doesn’t find the answers and they’ve got players capable of turning a game on its head on any given play on both sides of the ball, be it a Xavier Worthy reception or a George Karlaftis forced fumble. Add the fact that they are on the precipice of securing unprecedented history with a third straight Super Bowl triumph, the safe bet has to be the Kansas City Chiefs to win Super Bowl LIX.
