The Masters predictions
This will be the 88th Masters, originally set up by the great Bobby Jones in 1934 at Augusta, a course he helped to design. The perennial question in April for the last 10 years is will Rory McIlroy win The Masters and complete the golf Grand Slam of all the Majors.
It is only one of the few tournaments where both PGA and LIV golfers play. Last year’s winner Jon Rahm has since joined LIV as has second placed Brooks Koepka. Rory McIroy is in grouping for the first two days with tournament favourite and World Number One Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele, another Top 10 golfer.
It is likely that the winner will come from this group or the previous one which includes Jon Rahm and the UK’s best hope Matt Fitzgerald or the next one which includes Wyndham Clark, Victor Hovland and Cameron Smith.
It will obviously be clearer after the first day and McIlroy is in the most competitive group. Despite a good showing in last week’s Texas Open, I think McIlroy will fall short again.
Day 2.
De Chambreau leads and his odds have been cut from 40/1 to 5/1, but pre-tournament favourite Scottie Scheffler had an excellent start and his price has almost shortened to evens. Danny Willett, a previous winner, is currently fourth at 4 under, but his odds are still over 100/1. He must be a good bet to finish at least in the top 10.
Selections: Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau (ew)
