Match predictions, preview
This weekend is an opportunity for bragging rights between the two Manchester clubs. Man Utd will look to start positively and build on their FA Cup success from last year while Man City will be out for revenge having suffered defeat the last time the two sides met at Wembley.
Erik ten Hag knows that he will be scrutinized at every opportunity now that he has seen his contract extended by the new owners. His side have had a mixed pre-season and have suffered several significant injuries in the process. They will be without new signing Leny Yoro who will be out for several months after injuring his ankle during a friendly against Arsenal. In the same game striker Rasmus Hojlund was forced off and will be out for a prolonged period. It may be an opportunity for fans to see new signing Joshua Zirkzee for the first time.
Premier League champions Manchester City have also had a mixed pre-season but looked impressive in their last outing against Chelsea, winning convincingly. Erling Haaland bagged himself a hat trick and has looked sharp considering he has had the whole summer off to recover and prepare for the new season. Pep Guardiola and his side will still be missing key players that featured in the Euro final, including the likes of Phil Foden and Rodri as they have not yet returned to training following their holidays.
We predict lots of goals with Man City coming out on top on Saturday.
