It’s a star-studded event as always with former champions Judd Trump and Mark Selby among the pack looking to get their hands on the trophy in Sheffield again while we’ll wait to see which big names come through the qualifiers, but it’s very nearly time to get the boys on the baize for what should be an enthralling fortnight of snooker.

World Snooker Championship 2024 preview, schedule, predictions

All eyes will be on the Crucible in the upcoming fortnight, as the world’s best descend on Sheffield to claim the biggest prize on the tour.

Reigning champion and top seed Brecel will get us underway as he begins the defence of his title at 10:00am on Saturday April 20, and it promises to be fascinating to see if the Belgian Bullet can repeat his form from last year to successfully defend his title.

However, with the likes of O’Sullivan, Trump and Selby among the other top contenders, he’ll certainly have to come through a tough draw to get back to the top.

Veteran Mark Williams comes into the tournament having triumphed at the Tour Championship earlier this month, but with five major trophies to his name this past season, including the UK Championship, Masters and World Masters of Snooker in Riyadh, O’Sullivan will be highly fancied as he bids to make more history and continues to captivate audiences.

The Rocket is the favourite heading to the Crucible at 3.25 with SkyBet, followed by Trump and Selby. Brecel is down as eighth favourite given his lack of consistency and success over the last 12 months, but time will tell if he shines on the biggest stage once more.

Will it be Ronnie’s year again? Will there be an ace in the pack to produce a surprise winner? Will John Virgo delight us all with a classic ‘where’s the cue ball going?!’ or two? All will be revealed at the 2024 World Snooker Championship starting on April 20.
