Champions League previews and predictions

Paris St Germain vs Borussia Dortmund (0-1)

After a great game in Dortmund last week, the home side edged a one nil win, though they could have scored more and PSG had their chances too. Will that slender lead be sufficient to take to Paris and enable Dortmund to reach their third final? Edin Terzic of Dortmund, the only manager of the semi-finalists not to have won a Champions League, has done a superb job with limited resources and must be on the radar of bigger European clubs (think Jurgen Klopp, another successful Dortmund manager). Jadon Sancho, out of favour at Manchester United, showed them what they’re missing in the first leg and needs another similar performance to get Dortmund. This is also Kylian Mbappe’s last chance to deliver the ultimate prize for PSG before he leaves in the summer for Real Madrid, where he probably has more chance of winning the Champions League trophy, Expect a tight cagey game with PSG scraping through.

Real Madrid vs Bayern Munich (2-2)

After the 2-2 draw in Munich, Real hold the upper hand in this semi-final. Bayern have had a very disappointing season by their high standards and getting this far in the Champions League gives them the chance to get something from the season and give a leaving present for Thomas Tuchel (off to Manchester United?). Two British players dominate the headlines for each club, Harry Kane for Bayern and Jude Bellingham for Marid, both of whom have had stellar first seasons for their respective clubs. However if Bellingham has a quiet game, which he did in Munich, there are plenty more to step up, including Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Valverde. And they get Kylian Mbappe next season! Real have too much experience in this competition and coupled with the superb tactician Carlo Ancelotti as manager, they should reach their 18th final, of which they’ve won 14. Make that 15 on June 1st.
